Mashhad ( Mash-hed transliteration, grave of a holy man) is an Israeli-Arab town located five kilometers northeast of Nazareth in Israel's North District. According to the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics, the town had a population of 6,700 mostly Muslim inhabitants.
   Mashhad became a local council in 1960. The town is said to be the site of Jonah's grave.Further Information
